Attorneys honored for pro bono work

The Jefferson County Bar Association (JCBA) celebrated its fourth annual National Celebrate Pro Bono Week, the week of Oct. 22-Oct. 26, on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Event Centre at 700 Crockett St. in downtown Beaumont. The celebration honored attorneys who provide civil legal services without fees to low-income residents who cannot afford to hire lawyers.

Sweltering heat and a long holiday weekend waiting in the wings didn’t stop more than two dozen Southeast Texas defense lawyers from gathering on the front steps of the Jefferson County Courthouse just before Independence Day to participate in a reading of the proclamation that gave America its genesis.
